Taking a Leap of Faith
“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.”
– Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Research shows that those with strong faith of some kind recover from illnesses more quickly and are better adjusted individuals. Believing in a power greater than ourselves seems to make us feel better.
This faith might be connected to religion, or it might not. It is a uniquely personal belief that differs from individual to individual. But what about when life, as it sometimes can, brings us challenge after challenge? How do we continue to have faith through the most difficult times?
Perhaps it is then when we need to take a leap of faith, as Martin Luther King Jr’s quote alludes to, to keep moving forward even when the ground under our feet doesn’t seem sturdy or even there at all. To believe we are being carried even when all evidence points to the contrary. That is faith.
